Feng Shui for the New Year

nyw3434This article is taken from my January 2018 Newsletter. To read the newsletter in its entirety, please click here.

Asian culture, as well as many others, look to the New Year as a very important time to make significant changes in their lives. The purpose of feng shui is to create the most optimal environment possible in order to provide a foundation for positive energy flow in your life. One thing that feng shui has taught me well is to embrace change. When done properly, feng shui helps propel you towards life experiences that are always bigger and better. Below I’ve outlined some very important steps to help you make this year your best yet.

1. Let go of what no longer serves you. It can be people, places, or things that have ceased to bring you joy. Sometimes relationships, places, and things that once held joy and meaning lose their luster and even become detrimental to our well-being.
In order to have healthy, loving relationships, you must heal or end toxic relationships with partners, friends, or family members. While this process can be painful, it is also one of the healthiest things you can do for your continued growth and well-being.
Your affinity with places can change too. Homes and environments where you may have once felt happy and comfortable may now make you feel stagnant, uneasy and frustrated. Any constant feeling of discomfort, whether it is with a specific person or place, signifies that a change is necessary in order to feel happier and more fulfilled.
Objects that you once loved may now be just taking up space and cluttering up your home and your life. If you don’t need it, want it, or love it, toss it!
2. Space clear your home. All the feng shui in the world won’t help if your space has
old, stuck residual energy. Over time, buildings absorb and radiate the energy of people or events that have taken place there. An indicator of stuck energy is feeling uneasy, drained, exhausted, unfocused or depressed when you’re in a particular space. It is very hard to move forward in your life when you are surrounded by stuck or negative energy in your home or workplace. Fortunately you can shift that energy by performing a space clearing.

Feng Shui Life Assessment Survey

This article is taken from my January 2017 Newsletter. To read the newsletter, please click here.

Many of us make resolutions for the new year with the hope and intention that things in our lives will somehow improve. In order to help you identify what is, and is not working in your life, I have developed a questionnaire that I call The Life Assessment Inventory. This questionnaire will help you narrow down and prioritize what you feel needs to be improved most in your life. Once you have identified these areas, you can use the energy of feng shui to help you make improvements and reach your goals.

Rate the answers to each question below from 1-10. 1 means that there is a lot of room for improvement, and 10 means that you’re really happy with the situation. Don’t overthink your answers. Just write down the first number that comes to you. Remember that life is dynamic and changes all the time, so the answers you write today may not be the same answers you’d write tomorrow, next week or next year. In fact, this is a great exercise to do at the beginning of a new year or new birthday year. Take the Inventory, put the date on it and put it away in a safe place. A year later take the test again and compare your results. Hopefully you’ll have improved the areas that you rated low from the year before. It’s a great way to track your goal-setting progress as well!
Once you have your answers, circle the ones that you rated 5 or lower. These are the areas that need the most improvement and ones that you’ll want to pay special attention to as you set your personal goals and make your feng shui improvements. Match each question to the Feng Shui Life Aspiration Area that goes with it. In feng shui, different areas of life (known as Life Aspiration Areas) correspond to areas in the home based on the compass directions. Each area has an element (water, wood, fire, earth and metal) associated with it. Much like acupuncture for a building, placing the elements in their proper locations can help bring more energy to various aspects of your life.
Ready, grab a pen and paper and let’s get started!!

Five Feng Shui Tips for Love

The article below is from my February 2016 newsletter. To read the entire newsletter, click here. Please respect that all material is copyright protected and cannot be reproduced without written consent. Thank you!

The energy of love vibrates with the highest frequency of energy possible. When we have love in our lives, everything seems brighter and happier. When we feel that we are missing love, the world can seem like a lonely place. While feng shui isn’t a magic wand that will make Ms. or Mr. Right appear before your very eyes, there are things that you can do to align your home with a more loving energy. Below are five tips to help you do that.

1. Let Go of the Past
Holding on to items that either belonged to, or remind you of a former flame can keep you stuck in the past and energetically holding on to something that no longer applies to the present. I’m always surprised at how often my clients tell me that they’d like to meet someone new, while at the same time displaying mementos and memories of past relationships in their homes.  Physically letting go of items that remind you of former loves can be a very empowering first step towards welcoming in a new, happier and healthier relationship.
2.  Energize the Southwest point in your Home
The southwest meridian is associated with Love & Romance in Feng Shui. The element that “activates” the southwest is earth (rock, stone, ceramic, minerals, etc.) In metaphysics the stone associated with love is rose quartz. Something that I like to do in the southwest is place a pair of rose quartz hearts (you can purchase a pair here) on the southwest meridian point in your home. To determine where this meridian is, see chapter 6 in my  book Feng Shui that Makes Sense . Wood is the destructive element for earth, so keep growing plants away from this point as much as possible. Be sure to keep this area free of clutter and any negative associations.
